MäSä-Duo consert

MäSä-Duo blends new and old traditions with a bold South Ostrobothnian touch.

The MäSä-Duo—also mentioned in the world music book *Madventures in Mad Music*—was founded in 2014. These pastors from South Ostrobothnia share their good news one verse at a time; forget the trumpets of judgment—instead, enjoy a proclamation of merciful love and let a South Ostrobothnian man find comfort, hope, and faith deep within his own soul. MäSä-Duo blends new and old traditions with a bold South Ostrobothnian flair. The tight, authentic folk-fiddling style of Kyösti Järvelä from Kaustinen meets the rhythmic accordion playing of Lauri Kotamäki from Lapua. Their playing and singing are full of energy and daring moments, delivered with genuine folk-musician spirit. Their repertoire consists mainly of rearranged folk songs from various regions of Finland, including songs learned from old masters, *rekilaulu* (traditional rhyming folk songs), *kupletti* (humorous narrative songs), folk tunes, and medleys. Both Järvelä and Kotamäki grew up immersed in the Finnish folk music tradition. They have extensive experience performing with various Finnish folk music groups, such as Bill Hota & the Pulvers, Tötterssön, Järvelän Pelimannit, Haka, Alavuden Kaksiriviset, 5/5, Pirulainen, and Timo Rautiainen & Kansanmiehet. The duo has performed at folk music festivals and events including Sata-Häme Soi, the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, Alavus Ryskööt, Kevättä Palkeissa, and the Folklandia cruise.
