The exhibition on the borders of ceramics
We have, among other things, gathered materials from nature, made recycled finds, rummaged through our storage, and applied the processing of materials for exhibition work.
The name of our group, Peräkammarin tytöt, has its roots in the sculpture studio of the Jyväskylä Adult Education Center, which was located at the back of the ceramics classroom. The ceramics group of the institute brought us together over the years, and the "peräkammari" (back room) offered us a home base where we could learn pottery and spend time together. Nowadays, we each make ceramics on our own, but the love for the craft still unites us. Just over a year ago, we discussed together what other materials could be combined with ceramics and what new possibilities it could bring to ceramic-making over the years and decades. This is how the idea of a joint exhibition of multi-material works was born. In our exhibition held earlier this year, we let our thoughts take Flight, and this time we are examining the world through Boundaries. For the exhibition works, we have, among other things, gathered materials from nature, made recycling finds, delved into our storage spaces, and applied various material processing techniques. We have approached the works with an open eye to new experiments, while still leaving room for the viewer's imagination and the boundaries of the mind.
