A Hundred Year Time Hop Photography Art Exhibition

ABOUT THE ARTWORKS The colourful 'A Hundred Year Time Hop' photography artworks take the viewer on a time travel to the history of the Finnish capital Helsinki. The layered photo collages have been created based on the old, black and white photos taken by I. K. Inha in Helsinki in 1908. Photography artist Karoliina Veijo has captured the same locations about a hundred years later and then layered her shots with Inha’s city views. The exhibition offers an intriguing visual experience and invites the viewers to contemplate the passing of time, one’s own roots, history and of course art & aesthetics. One can find many Helsinki landmarks within the artworks. The exhibition is a part of the 80 year celebrations of the Jyväskylä Artists’ Association as well as the art and culture program provided by the Jyväskylä Festival celebrating their 70th birthday under the theme ’Civilization’. PREVIOUS VENUES The 'A Hundred Year Time Hop' project was originally created by the Finnish photography artist Karoliina Veijo as a tribute to Finland’s centennial in 2017. The main exhibition was seen at Finlandia Hall’s Gallery Veranda between May 1st and August 4th in 2017. Since then the collection has been at display for example at Into Center in Virrat and at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France. The works can now be seen in Jyväskylä for the first time in print form. POEMS BASED ON PHOTOGRAPHY ART In 2018 Veijo’s first poetry book Fairytale Cities (Satumaisia kaupunkeja) was published. All poems are based on her photography art. The A Hundred Year Time Hop is also featured in this Finnish language written word collection. OPENING HOURS The exhibition can be seen from February 1, 2025 till August 10, 2025 during the opening hours of the Villentornin kahvio / Villentorni Cafe and upon request. Free addmission.
