Mental health and substance abuse services
It is now easier for young people to get help and treatment with mental health and substance abuse concerns in Jyväskylä. Young people themselves or their relations can contact the service directly and no referrals are required. For example, loneliness, bullying and knots in family and friend relationships can be causing concerns. There may also be concerns about the use of intoxicants, gambling, lack of study or work placements or any other factor affecting everyday life.
Closest help is provided at local schools or academies
Primary school students and second-degree students are supported by their own school’s health nurse, curator, psychologist and psychiatric specialist nurse. University students are attended to in student health care.

Young people without a place to study can receive guidance and counseling from the Youth Reception, J-Nappi, Detective Youth Work and Ohjaamo.
- Youth Reception offers mental health and substance abuse services for young people aged 13-22 in Jyväskylä.
- J-Nappi takes care of young people aged 18-29 in Jyväskylä who want and need long-term guidance and support.
- Clients at Detective Youth Work are young people aged 15-29 who have fallen outside of education, working life and training. Detective Youth Work instructors help young people to clarify their own life situation and future plans.
- Ohjaamo advice, guidance and support for life management, career planning, social skills and competency development, training and employment are targeted at all under 30 year olds.
Towards the Youth House
Mental health and substance abuse services for young people are being improved in Jyväskylä in a multidisciplinary and professional manner. There is more staff providing services, personnel expertise is advanced from time to time, service times are expanded and the everyday environments of young people and families are observed. Operators create collective operating models and practices. The goal is to get youth services offered by different actors to one phone number and address - the Youth House.
