New Year's in Jyväskylä
New Year's events organized by the City of Jyväskylä on 31.12. Traditional elements and new surprises to experience while also being Covid-19 safe!
Due to the Covid-19 situation getting worse and the new restrictions, the previously announced New Year for Families with Children on 31.12. in the Mäki-Matti family park has unfortunately been cancelled.
The city of Jyväskylä is organizing a traditional fireworks display in honor of the turn of the year. People can watch the fireworks around the city at 00:00. If the fireworks don’t interest you, a countdown to 2022 will be reflected on the wall of the City Hall at the same time by the City of Light, culminating in a New Year's special show at midnight.
Mayor Timo Koivisto's traditional New Year's speech can be watched on video on New Year's Eve on the city's website www.jyvaskyla.fi.
During Christmas and New Year, residents will also be delighted, as usual, by the light reindeer of Kirkkopuisto with their sleigh, 3-meter light balls and a light fountain. Atmospheric lanterns and smaller light balls also create an atmosphere on the paths for those arriving at the park. The park is also illuminated in winter tones until January 9th, 2022.
In the church park, you can also admire a light installation called Lights of Sampo on the wall of the town hall, which premiered on 7.12. and will be displayed until 2.1. The light installation will be displayed on the wall of the town hall every night from 4pm to 9pm.
