TUO TUO grand opening, "Kesätyö" art exhibition

The grand opening exhibition – "Kesätyö", a solo show by Helsinki-based artist Erika Hirsimäki featuring textile and site-specific works – marks the first time TUO TUO’s doors open to the public since its inception last winter.

The exhibition is on view from June 13 to July 9, Wednesdays–Sundays from 12:00–18:00 at Pertunmaantie 912 Joutsa. TUO TUO also offers a “taidekahvila” during the exhibition opening hours. After visiting the exhibition, guests are welcome to the pop-up kahvila on the terrace: traditional lettu, New York-style iced coffee, homemade kombucha and more will be available for sale.

TUO TUO is a private, nonprofit association founded by artists that aims to function as an incubator for expression and new ideas. In addition to operating a small artist residency program, TUO TUO organizes art exhibitions and cultural events that are open to the public. Public programs are typically offered on a free or suggested donation basis wherever possible. Artworks found at TUO TUO typically address themes related to ecological art and research, nature, permaculture and experimentation.

Located in Joutsa, a small town in the region of Keski-Suomi, TUO TUO’s historic schoolhouse facilities were built in the late 1920s, and served as the Pynnölä village school until 2005. The previous owner, designer Anu Pylsy took over the schoolhouse in 2006 where she operated her atelier & showroom: Design Pylsy for over ten years. Anu’s showroom has reopened in Vaajakoski's Wanha Nail Factory, at Vaajakoski.
