Jyväskylä's Christmas Opening 2021
Welcome to Jyväskylä's traditional Christmas Opening in the city centre on Saturday 20.11.
The whole centre of Jyväskylä celebrates the opening of the Christmas season together! You will find lots of Christmas programs, special deals, activities and services around the city centre.
The Christmas Opening program offered by the City of Jyväskylä will start at Compass Square on the platform of Jyväskeskus Shopping Centre at 5.15 pm. At the Compass Square, singer Iina Mutikainen performs the most beautiful Christmas songs. Mutikainen is also known by the artist name Aina and the band Toistuvat Yllätykset. The Kipinät choir from Jyväskylä will also perform to the public. The programme at the Compass Square culminates in Santa's visit.
At 6.00 pm, Santa's procession leaves for Illuminated Christmas Park at the Church Park. The youngest members of the family are hoped to dress up as elves and join the procession that takes Santa and the bigger elves to Christmas Park. Reindeer and sleigh, giant illuminated balls, a light fountain and lanterns can be found at the Christmas Park. The Christmas Park program also includes the lighting of the city's Christmas tree lights.
At 7 pm, the program will continue in Toivola Old Courtyard by the delicious porridge pots. Santa Claus will be there, as well as an animation show of the Snowman, and opera singer Johanna Rusanen-Kartano accompanied by Outi Jussila (piano) and Kalle Kangas (cello).
This year's downtown Ihana Ikkuna showcase competition will surprise you with colors from November 20th to December 15th. Discover a colorful Christmas and wonderful experiences for the whole family in the windows of the brick-and-mortar shops!
Family's little ones can be brought to Sokkari Shopping Centre's free Art Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The art park is always open on Saturdays until 18th December, and can be found on the second floor of Sokkari.
Parking at Jyväs-Parkki city centre parking garages free for the first 2 hours. Valid on Saturdays 6.11.2021–29.1.2022 at 6 am–18 pm.
